The Pit-Bull: My Favorite Soccer Player Of All Time

There was one guy who always had my attention as a youngster with dreams of playing professional soccer. His nickname is the Pit-bull and he plays for my favorite country to root for in the World Cup. The Netherlands. The Oranje. The Flying Dutchman. Holland.

Whichever name you use they are amazing and have my favorite style of play, which is possession and quick one touch passes all over the pitch.

No playing for England’s Crystal Palace Club Team, he was crucial in me progressing as a soccer player. I can’t stress enough to find a player you like and really watch how they play. This was who I looked up to. I really did study how he played with the ball, the runs he made, and the decisions he would make while attacking or transitioning.

His name is Edgar Davids and you might have seen him in a bunch of Nike Commercials a few world cups ago. This man back in the day was known as having one of the best touches in the world and in 1998 made the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team.

I remember watching the Nike commercial he had one of the sickest moves I’d even seen probably until I started watching Christiano Ronaldo who is my current favorite player to watch. They play pretty similar styles but both have flare that’s hard to teach without hours of practice.

Photoelasticity Birefringence Photography

Photoelasticity Birefringence is a visual phenomenon that occurs when placing transparent plastic between polarizing material. The effect shows the stress contained in the plastic.

In order to take pictures like this, you will need to place a hard transparent plastic object between two polarizers. Make sure your object is backlit as well. Fortunately, LCD computer monitors are backlit AND have a linear polarizing material in front of the backlight, so this takes care of everything. If you go this route, all you need to do is find some cool looking plastic and stick a polarizer filter on your lens and you are set to go. If you don't want to use a laptop computer screen or just want to to get rid of the ugly RGB pixels, use a light table with polarizing paper on top of it instead.

You'll also want a polarizing filter to place on your lens. This can be circular or linear, it doesn't matter. Things that work well are cheap transparent plastic cups, forks, spoons, and knifes. Prisms, plastic wrap, and cheap packaging material work good as well. Things that unfortunately don't work are water, glass, and anything that isn't a transparent plastic (crystals might be the only exception, although this is unconfirmed). Water can sometimes look okay-looking, but not nearly as cool as plastic.
